IWOM Watch Special Edition: Internet and IWOM shape the Sichuan Earthquake aftermath

IWOM Watch is CIC’s bi-weekly trend e-magazine which provides a qualitative overview of Web 2.0 buzz. CIC recently launched A Special Edition Guide to Internet Word of Mouth to report on the positive power of the Internet, IWOM and netizens following the earthquake. CIC Update: CIC hosts first IWOM Classroom

On June 3rd, CIC hosted its first CIC IWOM Classroom event at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). The purpose of the CIC IWOM Classroom Series is to educate students on the power of IWOM and how they can leverage their understanding and experience with IWOM to work with brands and agencies in the future. More than 80 students joined the event and over 10 students asked interesting and challenging questions. CIC looks forward to organizing future events at SISU, Fudan and other universities in the Shanghai area this coming fall.

Tuning into Sports IWOM 2007 Q4: BBS vs. Twitter (CEO blog June 12th, 2008)
CIC released its latest IWOM white paper, Tuning into Sports IWOM 2007 Q4 (download here or get off of slideshare here) last month which highlighted the recent “group watching/reporting” trend on BBS.This post takes a look at “group watching” during Game 2 of the NBA finals on June 9 and analyzes the similarities and differences between Twitter and two forums on the popular BBS community, Hoopchina. ?Within the few days surrounding Game 2 of the NBA finals, the conversation in the Lakers fan forum received 87,430 page views, 4,974 replies by an estimated 600 unique posters while a similar Twitter conversation included just 90 messages from around 15 unique users. * See here to read further.

Thoughtful China —— The power of IWOM in China (Seeisee blog May 19th, 2008)
May 19 began the three day period of mourning in China for the Sichuan earthquake victims. Daisy, CIC’s team member studying in the UK, shares her thoughts on this phenomena and its affect on those living both in China and abroad. “Thoughtful China,” she says, means China is coming together and the Internet is helping those abroad grieve and feel closer to home. Daisy discusses how this terrible tragedy, with the help of the Internet, will make the country even stronger.
